How will new donations be spent?

Currently, George’s living conditions are pretty stable, and his living expenses will be much lower moving forward. The defense is ramping up for the next phase where it will be necessary to hire experts. Here are some details:

Living Expenses

George and Shellie recognize that every penny they spend has been donated by generous individuals who have been moved to lend their support. Currently George and Shellie are renting a secure residence at a reasonable rate. Their day-to-day living expenses are relatively modest as they want to preserve as many funds as possible for an aggressive defense.

Security

Security remains a concern, and while much of the original onslaught of hate directed at Mr. Zimmerman has subsided with the disclosure of facts supporting his innocence, it is still not safe for George to be out in public.

The Defense Fund continues to fund security for Mr. Zimmerman. The cost is a tiny fraction of what it was during the first several months, and to keep costs low George seldom ventures out. The primary concern is someone discovering his address and making it public, and most of the security efforts are focused on preventing that.

Case Related Expenses

Mr. O’Mara and Mr. West have not been paid for their services. Money has been used to pay rent on office space, for IT support, for staff dedicated to the case. Considering the scope of the Zimmerman case, these expenditures are very modest, and these expenditures are expected to remain steady until the end of the case.

Moving forward, we have a number of forensic experts that we need to hire and pay, in addition to the the costs associated with taking the 75 plus depositions that will be required for a proper defense. Whenever possible, we are asking the experts and consultants we retain to work at reduced rates or to defer compensation. Nonetheless, by the time we get to a Self-Defense Immunity Hearing or a trial, we expect these costs to approach six-figures, and very realistically, even more.

We intend to use the updates section of this website to demonstrate specific needs the defense has, and we will be using this forum to provide updates as to how funds have been allocated as the defense proceeds.
